Ferret Emergency Kit

Whether you have one ferret or many ferrets, its a good idea to always have an emergency kit on hand to handle small emergencies. It should be stated that if you are unsure about the injury or illness, ALWAYS NOTIFY YOUR VET!!! Its better to be safe than sorry.

This is a list of items that should be included in your kit:

**Your veterinarian's number

**The number to a 24 hour emergency clinic or service

**Include your ferrets health records

**Hydrogen peroxide - for cleaning cuts

**Gauze pads - for dressing

**Gauze wraps - for dressing

**Washcloths - to clean wounds Tipper, Coco, and Buddy

**Nail clippers - trimming nails

**Tweezers - to remove foreign bodies

**Cotton balls and cotton swabs

**Ice pack - to reduce swelling or to slow bleeding

**Rubber or Latex gloves

**Scissors

**Some kind of light source

**Rectal thermometer - the normal temperature for a ferret is about 102 degrees Farenheit

**Baby wipes - for general cleanup

**Adhesive bandage tape - to keep cuts clean until a vet can look at it

**Styptic powder - to control bleeding, especially useful when you accidently clip a claw too close

**Antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin - to keep a cut clean

**Kaopectate or Pepto Bismol - for diarrhea

**Ferretone/Linatone - to mix medications with for easy consumption

**Pedialyte - for ferrets who are recovering from an illness, keeps them hydrated

**Heating Pad - keep your ferret warm when he/she gets ill

REMINDER...Even though you have this kit handy, this does not forego a trip to the vet if the situation warrants it. Use your best judgement and keep your ferret's health and happiness in mind at all times.

Always...consult your vet before giving your ferret any medications, over the counter or otherwise.
